Keyboard shortcuts
These canvas shortcuts were checked against AVstudio Editor NG 27.0.29. The workspace shortcuts below are VS Code defaults; your keyboard layout, keymap extensions, or personal keybindings can change them.
Edit elements
Click the visual canvas and select the elements you want to work with before using these shortcuts.
| Action | macOS | Windows / Linux |
|---|---|---|
| Copy selected elements | ⌘C | Ctrl+C |
| Cut selected elements | ⌘X | Ctrl+X |
| Paste elements | ⌘V | Ctrl+V |
| Duplicate the selection once | ⌘D | Ctrl+D |
| Delete selected elements; if only a container is selected, request its deletion | Delete / Backspace | Delete / Backspace |
| Move one selected element by 1 px in Fixed layout | Arrow keys | Arrow keys |
| Move one selected element by 10 px in Fixed layout | Shift + arrow key | Shift + arrow key |
| Clear the element selection, then the container selection on the next press | Esc | Esc |
Click the visual canvas before using these shortcuts. Clipboard shortcuts in text inputs operate on text. In a VS Code source editor, ⌘D / Ctrl+D selects the next matching text instead of duplicating an AVstudio element.
Duplicate creates one copy of the selection. Unlike the context-menu Duplicate element command, the shortcut does not ask for a copy count. See Duplicate, move, or remove controls for the element context menu.
Arrow-key movement requires exactly one selected element and Fixed container layout. It does not reposition elements in Flow layout. Deleting a selected container opens a confirmation prompt.
Save, navigate, and show tools
| Action | macOS | Windows / Linux |
|---|---|---|
| Save the active file | ⌘S | Ctrl+S |
| Open the Command Palette | ⌘⇧P or F1 | Ctrl+Shift+P or F1 |
| Quick Open a project file | ⌘P | Ctrl+P |
| Open Explorer | ⌘⇧E | Ctrl+Shift+E |
| Open Extensions | ⌘⇧X | Ctrl+Shift+X |
| Open Run and Debug | ⌘⇧D | Ctrl+Shift+D |
| Show Problems | ⌘⇧M | Ctrl+Shift+M |
| Toggle the primary side bar | ⌘B | Ctrl+B |
| Toggle the secondary side bar | ⌥⌘B | Ctrl+Alt+B |
| Toggle the bottom panel | ⌘J | Ctrl+J |
| Open Keyboard Shortcuts | ⌘K, then ⌘S | Ctrl+K, then Ctrl+S |
| Start the selected debug configuration | F5 | F5 |
| Cancel a picker without changing the selection | Esc | Esc |
⌘ means Command, ⌥ means Option, and ⇧ means Shift. A shortcut written with “then” is a chord: release the first combination before pressing the second. Some keyboards require Fn to use function keys.
View: Toggle Secondary Side Bar Visibility shows or hides the secondary side bar; View: Toggle Status Bar Visibility shows or hides the status bar. Both are available through the Command Palette. To check or assign a shortcut for either command, use Keyboard Shortcuts.
To start Live Preview with F5, open Run and Debug and select Start AVS Live Preview first. In a workspace with multiple debug configurations, F5 runs the selected configuration. See Start from Run and Debug for the launch workflow.
Run AVstudio commands from the keyboard

The 27.0.29 extension does not assign default VS Code keybindings to its palette commands. Canvas shortcuts are handled inside the visual editor. A command appearing under recently used means it was run before; it does not indicate an assigned shortcut.
To reload the VS Code window after an extension update or when troubleshooting, save your work and run Developer: Reload Window from the Command Palette. This is a VS Code command.
Assign your own shortcut
- Open Keyboard Shortcuts with
⌘K, then⌘Son macOS, orCtrl+K, thenCtrl+Son Windows/Linux. - Search for the command name, such as AVstudio: Run Project Health Check. You can also search by its ID:
avstudio-editor.runHealthCheck. - Double-click its Keybinding cell, press the desired combination, and press Enter.
- If the combination is already assigned, inspect the conflicting commands before keeping it. Right-click an entry and select Show Same Keybindings to review conflicts.
- Return to the intended AVstudio project and test it. Activate a
.pagetab first for page-specific commands.
You can also open the Command Palette, find a command, and use its gear button to configure its keybinding. Personal keybindings are VS Code preferences; assigning a shortcut does not change the AVstudio project files.
For VS Code defaults and customization, see the official Keyboard Shortcuts guide and layout controls.
